Chelsea Flower Show

■ A scale model of South Africa’s display at the 42nd Chelsea Flower Show was at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. The theme this year is Windows on Biodiversity, celebrating South Africa being home to 10 percent of the world’s plant species, and having the third highest biodiversity in the world. SA National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) chief executive Tanya Abrahamse, who is also chair of SA Tourism Board, leaves Sanbi in August, and will attend the iconic flower show in London in May. The show is a benchmark for horticulture and a platform for promoting tourism to South Africa. She said the exhibition’s success would depend on the enthusiastic team of volunteers who are to join Sanbi representatives.
