The UCT Ibuyambo Orchestra will honour the late artist Latozi Madosini Mpahleni in a performance called Umoya uthethile (The spirit has spoken) on Saturday August 26 at the Baxter Concert Hall, at 7pm.
Madosini was a musician, poet, storyteller and teacher. The concert involving dance, singing and acting seeks to recognise her contribution towards preserving Xhosa uhadi and umrhubhe bow music and culture and the orchestra will pay respect to her well-known repertoire, including Uthando Luphelile, one of the most well-known songs from her first album The Power to Women.
Tickets cost from R50 to R100 through Webtickets. UCT students and staff are allowed free entry with a valid student/staff card.
